Farm Bill Updates

Thankfully, congress was able to come to agreement on the Farm Bill, and President Trump signed off on it as well.  There were some changes to crop insurance, but no damaging ones to coverages or qualification guidelines.

FCIC Guidelines for Irrigated Practice Reporting

These updated guidelines communicate to growers what is now required in order to document whether, at the time insurance attaches, a realistic expectation exists of their being able to supply sufficient water to conduct a good irrigation practice for the acreage being reported.  The guidelines are as follows:

Be able to document and demonstrate that there is a reasonable expectation of adequate water;

Be able to document and demonstrate good irrigation practices;

Be able to demonstrate that their irrigation equipment and facilities are sufficient;

 When there has been a failure of the irrigation system that prevented the grower from planting or there has been a failure of the irrigation water supply, the insured must provide verifiable documentation to the AIP by Acreage Reporting Date that the irrigation water supply has replenished;

Acreage insured under an irrigated practice must have seperate productions records from acreage insured under any other practice.
